Punjabi Numbers, Days & Months ਗਿਣਤੀ

Count from 1 to 100 in Punjabi, learn the seven days of the week, the twelve months of the year, and how to tell the time. Each number is shown in Gurmukhi script with romanized pronunciation.

Numbers 1–100 (Gintee)

Punjabi numbers follow a regular pattern up to ten and twenty, then combine units with tens (much like English). The first ten - ik, do, tin, char, panj, chhe, satt, ath, nau, das - are the foundation of the whole counting system, so learn them first.

Days of the Week (Hafte de din)

Punjabi day names are similar across South Asia and follow planetary roots. Sunday is "Aitvaar", Monday "Somvaar", and so on.

Months (Mahine)

Modern Punjabi uses both the Gregorian month names (Janvari, Farvari, Maarch...) and the traditional Nanakshahi / Bikrami calendar months (Chet, Vaisakh, Jeth, Harh, Sawan, Bhadon, Assu, Kattak, Maghar, Poh, Magh, Phagan).

Tips for learning Punjabi numbers fast

Punjabi numbers are heavier on memory than English ones - there's no perfect "twenty-one, twenty-two" pattern; many numbers are unique words. The fastest path:

  • Learn 1–10 cold first.
  • Then learn the multiples of ten (10, 20, 30… das, vih, tih, chaali, panjah, satth, sattar, assi, navve, sau).
  • Most numbers in between are formed as (unit + ten) with sound shifts - e.g. 21 is ikki, 22 is baai.
  • Practise by counting prices when you shop, ages of people you know, and reciting phone numbers digit-by-digit.

Pair this page with the Gurmukhi alphabet so you can read each number in script, and try the flashcard quiz to test recall.
