Terms of Use

These are the friendly ground rules for using Learn Punjabi. In plain terms: the site is free, it's here to help you learn, and we ask that you respect the work that went into it.

Last updated: 12 August 2026

Acceptance of these terms

By using the Learn Punjabi website or Android app ("the site"), you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site. These terms apply to everyone who visits or uses Learn Punjabi.

What Learn Punjabi is

Learn Punjabi is a free educational resource for learning the Punjabi language, the Gurmukhi script, and Punjabi culture. It is provided for personal, non-commercial learning. There is no account, subscription, or purchase required to use it. An optional free account is available if you'd like your progress to sync across devices - accounts use an email address and a password, and you're responsible for keeping your password private and signing up with a real email address that you control. We ask you to confirm that address by email before anything is stored under your account; until you do, your learning stays in your own browser and nothing syncs to us.

Your account

You may hold one account for yourself. Please don't share it, register on somebody else's behalf, or create accounts automatically. You're responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself and tell us at privacy@learnpunjabi.net if you think someone else has got into it.

We may suspend or remove an account that is used to break these terms - in particular one used for spam, abuse, or impersonation. If we ever do that to you and you think we've got it wrong, write to us and a person will look at it.

Profiles and posts

A profile is optional. If you set one up, you can add a handle, a display name, a picture, a short bio, a few details about your Punjabi, and posts on your own wall. All of it is visible only to other signed-in learners - never to the open web - and you can hide, edit, or delete any of it whenever you like.

What you write stays yours. By posting it here you give us permission to store it and to show it to other signed-in learners, which is simply what's needed to make the feature work; we claim no ownership of it and we won't use it elsewhere. Deleting a post removes it, and deleting your account removes all of it.

You are responsible for what you post, and you agree not to post anything that:

  • Is unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, or demeaning to any person or community - including on grounds of religion, caste, gender, sexuality, disability, or nationality.
  • Is sexual content, graphic violence, or otherwise unsuitable for a site that families and children use to learn.
  • Is spam, advertising, a scam, or a link scheme.
  • Impersonates someone else, or claims to speak for Learn Punjabi.
  • Infringes anyone's copyright, or shares another person's private information without their consent.
  • Uploads a profile picture you don't have the right to use.

We can remove any post or profile that breaks these rules, and we don't have to explain each removal in advance - though we'll tell you if we remove something of yours. Posting is available to learners aged 16 and over; younger learners have full access to everything else on the site, but their profiles stay private and posting is switched off. Report anything that concerns you to privacy@learnpunjabi.net.

Using the site

You're welcome to use Learn Punjabi for your own learning and to share links to it. When using the site, you agree not to:

  • Copy, scrape, or republish substantial portions of our content as your own, whether on another website, app, or product.
  • Use automated tools to harvest content or place unreasonable load on the site.

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose or in a way that infringes the rights of others.

Intellectual property

The lessons, written explanations, structure, design, and original graphics on Learn Punjabi are our intellectual property or are used with permission, and are protected by copyright. The Punjabi language, the Gurmukhi script, and traditional cultural and religious material are, of course, a shared heritage that belongs to everyone - our copyright covers the way we have explained, arranged, and presented these things, not the heritage itself.

You may use and reference the material for your personal learning and education. For any other use - such as reproducing our content in a classroom resource, publication, or commercial product - please get in touch first.

Accuracy and cultural content

We work hard to keep our lessons accurate and to represent Sikh and Punjabi traditions respectfully and correctly. That said, language learning involves regional variation, and cultural and historical topics can be interpreted in different ways. The content is offered for general educational purposes and may contain simplifications or occasional errors. If you spot something that seems wrong or could be handled with more care, we genuinely want to hear about it - email hello@learnpunjabi.net.

Images on the site

Some images on Learn Punjabi are AI-generated illustrations rather than photographs. Where they depict real people or historical events, they are artistic impressions created to illustrate the story being told - they are not photographic records, and details such as faces, clothing, lettering, and surroundings may not be accurate. Please don't treat them as documentary evidence or reproduce them as historical photographs.

No warranty

Learn Punjabi is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We don't guarantee that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet any particular learning outcome. Your use of the site is at your own discretion and risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Learn Punjabi and the people behind it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited.

Links to other sites

Learn Punjabi contains links to third-party websites (for example, references and further reading) and relies on third-party services such as Google. We don't control those sites and services and aren't responsible for their content or their practices. Following external links is at your own risk, and their terms and policies apply to your use of them.

The Android app

Our Android app presents the Learn Punjabi website as an installable app and is distributed through Google Play. Your download and use of the app are additionally subject to Google Play's Terms of Service.

Changes to the site and these terms

We may update, add to, or remove parts of the site at any time, and we may revise these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use the site after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes relating to them will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without affecting any statutory consumer rights you have in your own country of residence.
