Keeping Punjabi alive - one learner at a time

Learn Punjabi is a beginner-friendly home for anyone who wants to genuinely reconnect with the Punjabi language and culture - especially the millions of us growing up in the diaspora.

Why this site exists

For many of us in the diaspora, Punjabi is the language of our grandparents - the sound of the kitchen, of festivals, of old film songs - but not a language we were ever formally taught. We can often understand a little and speak even less, and the Gurmukhi script can feel completely out of reach. Each generation that grows up without it loses a little more of the connection.

Learn Punjabi was built to close that gap. It gathers the script, the everyday words, the real phrases, and the cultural context into one calm, focused place - so that a complete beginner can start today and actually make progress, without a tutor or a textbook.

What we believe

  • Heritage, not a product. This site exists to pass the language on, not to sell it.
  • Beginners first. We assume you're starting from zero. Nothing is gatekept behind jargon or grammar you haven't met yet.
  • Script matters. Reading Gurmukhi unlocks everything else. We treat it as step one, not an afterthought.
  • Culture is part of the language. You can't fully learn Punjabi without understanding Vaisakhi, langar, bhangra, and the history behind them - so we cover all of it.
  • Respect for the source. We aim to represent Sikh and Punjabi traditions accurately and with care.

What's inside

Learn Punjabi is organised as a clear path from the script to real conversation, plus a deep library of culture:

  • Gurmukhi Alphabet: allundefinedconsonants, vowel marks, and special characters.
  • Vocabulary: 75+ everyday words across eight categories.
  • Phrases: real-life sentences for home, family, and daily life.
  • Numbers: 1–100, days, months, and telling the time.
  • Family Terms: the precise Punjabi word for every relative.
  • Culture:diasporadeep-dive guides on festivals, faith, music, and history.
  • Quiz: flashcards that focus on the words you find hardest.
