Punjabi Phone Call Phrases: Answering, Signal and Hanging Up ਫ਼ੋਨ ਉੱਤੇ
Punjabi phone calls have their own openings and closings. This covers answering, asking who's calling, bad signal, and getting off the phone politely.
What to know before you use these
- Endings take several turns — "Changa… changa ji… acha… Sat Sri Akal." Hanging up as soon as the business is done reads as abrupt, even between close family.
- Pass on greetings before you go — "Ghar saarian nu Sat Sri Akal kehna" is close to obligatory. Ending a call without it is the kind of thing that gets mentioned later.
- "Aavaaz" carries the whole call — Aavaaz aa rahi hai (can you hear me), aavaaz katt rahi hai (breaking up), uchi bolo (louder). One noun covers most signal trouble.
